Old Barn, Leaning, Falling, Gone.

The old barn lasted a long time, but the roof was gone and the haymow floor was rotten.  Last winter it started leaning.  For a few months it would sway to the south or north with the wind.  Then It decided to go north and slowly went further and further.  We worried about some one getting hurt if it fell.
While the big excavator was here digging the pond deeper, Mary pointed out that it would not take him long to pull the concrete foundation out of the ground.  So we decided it was time.
First some final pictures of the old barn and half of the little white milk cooler building.

The part with the diagonal siding was the original part of tall old barn. The original part was built over both the little white building and the original milking barn to the south that we tore down a few years ago. The addition to the left (east) was actually bigger than the original tall part and it too was built over the milking barn.

This is the bobcat encouraging the lean.  Note that the second story of the addition stayed sort of intact as the bottom went down.  The excavator then finished the job and pulled up all the concrete foundation and floor.

It made kind of a small pile. We tried to save some of the barn wood after the demolition.

Randy moving the concrete to bury behind the dam along with the concrete from several other buildings that we tore down.  About 8000 cubic feet of concrete junk.

We find "treasures" while working.  This was a chunk of concrete from this effort.  Evidently poured in 1956, it has initials of  Uncle Hallet Reder, cousin Stan Payton and Randy Daughenbaugh(?) or Bob Duff, or ??

Bye bye barn.  Sad day.  We miss you.
